Pencil drawing, A2 in size Completed 2015, aged 17 Influenced by Michael Borremans |
My leading fine art pencil drawings are affiliated with my most recent project, which aims to look back at the metaphorical DNA of artwork and aiming to discover whether artists can be traced as influenced by the work of their contemporaries. The quest is to determine further Picasso's famous quote "good artists copy, bad artists steal", and therefore introduces this series of drawings. Under this project bracket, I attempted to trace the influence for Michael Borremans's work, discovering Edouard Manet and Edgar Degas as possible prestiges and thus making my own artistic responses to all three established artists. I also experimented with paint and pastel to produce smaller works that widened my media coverage; and finding many transferable skills of shadow and composition of light and dark I was pleased with the outcomes. My best works however were my larger-scale pencil drawings where the attention to detail and consideration to tonal contrast between light and dark have made success for the pieces. |
